Porsche Cayenne GTS at the Chicago Auto Show

Porsche Cayenne GTS

The overpriced but undeniably excellent Porsche Cayenne just brought a new member to the team. Shown to us at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show Porsche breakfast, the new GTS will fall in-between the Cayenne S and the top-of-the-line Turbo model. The GTS will be the most powerful naturally-aspirated Cayenne available.

Using a tuned version of the Direct-Injection 4.8L V8 found in the Cayenne S, the GTS will boost engine output to 405 horsepower; an increase of 20hp over the S, propelling you from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. Fans of manual transmission can also rejoice; for the first time in the Cayenne, you can choose a six-speed manual instead of the standard Tiptronic tranny.

The GTS also has some new styling cues which distinguish it from the rest of the pack. The body has been lowered by 20mm, and the front fascia was given some features from the Cayenne Turbo. New 21″ alloy wheels are surrounded by a unique wheel arch design, and a new sport-tuned air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management. You also get sportier Alcantara seats in the front and back, and can choose from 2 exclusive colors.

The GTS goes on sale immediately at a starting price of $69,300, filling the gap between the “Not quite good enough” S model, and the “Way too damn expensive” Turbo, which costs over $30,000 more than the GTS.

Hi! I founded Automoblog.net in May of 2006. I'm an avid sports car and supercar enthusiast. My favorite cars include the Audi R8, Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 VT, and Koenigsegg CCX. I think the Ferrari 360 Spider is still one of the most beautiful cars in existence. For “normal” cars, I tend to lean towards imports - Nissan, Audi, and of course the Italians. I'm in love with my Pearl Yellow (don't judge) 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and plan to get around 550 HP to the rear wheels one day. I'm also a world traveler and have been backpacking Europe since March 2012, writing about cars along the way

You know, I've never liked SUVs, and I don't plan to start now. This car may be powerful, but it still looks ugly.

Honestly I've never been a big fan of SUVs myself, but there are a few that FOR SUVs, they look good. Like the Cayenne, the Nissan Murano, Infiniti FX, etc.
