A Diesel Subaru WRX?

Aussie WRX

Well, I’ve heard wackier notions, but according to Australia’s Drive.com Subaru is considering producing a diesel version of the far-too-fun WRX sport sedan.

Personally, I like diesels on a number of levels, and as I recall, there was a North American rally team running a Golf TDi with some success for a while. More, fun to drive diesels are a good thing, if you ask me.

Yes, I know, Audi is making a diesel engined R8, but I mean a high performance diesel I can afford.

And I bet I could afford a WRX.

I know, to some, this could be seen as another troubling step in the WRX world. A lot of people were pretty peeved when they new WRX turned out to be a five door only, near-wagon layout, and the possibility of an oil burning engine in the WRX would probably peeve them even more.

Honestly though: Deal with it.

So they might (as this is all still very much wind in sails) make a diesel version. The gas engine isn’t going away, they’re not forcing you to buy one … all is not lost, remain calm.

That might not be such a bad idea, I’d consider buying it if the new WRXs weren’t so ugly (at least in comparison to it’s previous generation.)

Audi won’t make the diesel V12 R8, they’re planning on a gas V10 in a couple years though. I think they might take that diesel idea into a few other cars though.

That would be insanely awesome. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to afford a WRX, but a DIESEL WRX would just be that much more kick ass. Also assuming they go back a few years to their older style haha.
