Farbio GTS – Just Another Look-Alike?
No, that’s not Fabio the long-haired hunk of a fashion model. It’s Farbio – the newest British car company wanting to break out into the sports car market.
It does a nice job with the mid-engined GTS – it comes in either a Naturally-Aspirated or Supercharged model. The base version gets 262 horsepower, while the supercharged version boasts 384 ponies, both from a 3.0L V6. The base model GTS gets from 0 to 60 mph in an admirable 4.8 seconds, but the supercharger helps the GTS scoot to the same speed in only 3.9 seconds – almost one full second faster.
It’s a somewhat light car – the body being made completely from carbon fiber helps it to weight in at around 2300 pounds, and the supercharger only adds 45 lbs, significantly increasing the power-to-weight ratio, which I’m sure is the main reason the S/C version is so much quicker. The Farbio GTS comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, 19″ multi-spoke alloy wheels, and a nice leather and Alcantara interior that can seat a driver as tall as 6’6″; perfect for me, I’m 6’4″.
Expect to pay somewhere between £60,000 ($124,000 USD) and £75,000 ($154,000 USD.) Not terrible for the performance-per-dollar, but will it stand out? What makes it special? From what I can see, not much. It’s problem is that it’s not remarkable in any way. The performance is great, but that doesn’t give it any personality. It’s obviously borrowed it’s styling cues from a few other manufacturers – namely Tesla, Ferrari, and Lotus. For my $154,000, I’d much rather have the Maserati Gran Turismo.

I have absolutely no respect for cars who are nothing more than paltry copies of another. Borrowing slight design cues or being influenced is alright and I support that, but downright copying gets my all-time low. This car is a perfect example of a badly done copycat. The rear is almost exactly the same as the Tesla Roadsters, the front is a Carrera GT imitation, and the side is a quick, pathetic attempt to inject some originality— but it's not fooling anybody. What happened to the days when there was actually competition to make a better looking car?
