Infiniti G37 Coupe

Infinity G37 Coupe

Official pictures of the new Infiniti G37 Coupe were released, and I must say, I’m rather disappointed. What was once one of the most gorgeous designs in years (the Infiniti Coupe Concept,) has turned into a mediocre refresh of the old G35 Coupe.

Don’t get me wrong, the car isn’t ugly in any sense of the word, in fact I think it’s great looking. It just looks too much like a mix between current G35 coupe and the 2007 G35 sedan, and it doesn’t compare to the Coupe Concept show at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show. They apparently decided that they didn’t want a new design, but only a refresh of the old one. While it was a significant improvement, it just doesn’t look as good I was expecting.

Anyway, the G37 will be receiving Infiniti’s new 3.7 liter V6 pushing out 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. IT will feature an advanced 4-Wheel Active Steer (4WAS) system, and a bunch of nifty options including touch-screen navigation and a 9.3 GB hard drive entertainment system with Bose speakers. Expect to see it in dealer showrooms by August. More G37 Pictures.

[…] Meanwhile, Egon at AutomoBlog thinks that Infiniti may have played it a bit too safe with the G37. Here in The Garage, we just wonder why they had to diddle around with the name. […]

After reading your blog, I was thinking the same thing. I was really looking forward to the new coupe based on the concept model. The concept looked edgy, aggressive and kept the coupe feel from their previous model. The coupe their releasing in August looks too much like the Sedan, and I’m now considering getting a different coupe car. I really hope they go back to the coupe concept they have after this version.

Thank you

Thanks for the comment, John, I agree completely. Heck, after this is released I might just go after a G35 Coupe since the prices will most likely go down a bit.

[…] We already saw how Infiniti changed the G37 drastically from the Coupe Concept displayed last year, but we didn’t get a very good look at the interior. Not only is the interior missing the “pizazz” that the concept had, I think it’s downright lackluster. Take a look at the comparison: […]
