Kia Ex_Cee’d Concept

Honestly, I never thought I’d be writing about Kia for AutomoBlog, but their latest attempt at being sporty deserves a little bit of attention. The awkwardly named Ex_Cee’d concept comes from Peter Schreyer, who used to be the designer for VW and Audi.

Kia ExCeed Concept

The sporty Ex_cee’d cabrio is based on Kia’s cee’d small car — the first car the company ever built in Europe for Europeans. It’s a soft-top cabrio with some auto show touches, including 19-inch wheels, exotic headlights, and an auto-show-only interior. This car won’t make it to production, but a small cabrio will likely come to the European market from Kia at some point in the future. This concept is the temperature reading on that idea.

I wouldn’t be too quick to discount Kia. They don’t produce anything for the enthusiast to get excited about, at least not yet, but they put together some of the best interiors you’ll find in an affordable car.

My comments on this, based partly on the press days in Chicago:

Many folk knock Kia because of its relatively low prices (snobbery if ever there was) BUT you forget one very important factor which seems never to feature in any car review. I’ve owned three Kia cars now (two at present) and my experience is that they are every bit as reliable as Toyota. They don’t rust, they don’t break down, they do a very impressive fuel economy, are cheap to insure and they go on forever. Apart from dealer services (inexpensive) the only attention mine ever get or need is occasional fuel and occasional water in the windscreen washer bottle. That’s it. Superb value for money motoring.
