Dodge Demon Concept

Dodge apparently wants to jump on the small roadster bandwagon along with the Honda S2000, Mazda Miata, Pontiac Solstice, BMW Z4 and Saturn Sky. In fact, I think from the front, it looks just like the S2000. Take a look at it:

Dodge plans to release the concept at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, although I’m kinda pissed it wasn’t show at the Chicago Auto Show last week. Attempting to aim at the affordable roadster market just like the rest of the cars listed above, expect it to list at around the same low $20K mark. Keep reading for more info and a gallery:

Chrysler’s new global engine, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder, produces just 172 hp — compared to the Solstice/Sky’s 177 hp — but the car weighs in at an estimated 2,600 pounds, versus the Solstice/Sky’s 2,860 pounds. Of course, all power goes to the rear wheels.

Of course the new Dodge will be a worthy competitor to what would seem to be an over-saturated market already, but if you like Dodge cars but can’t afford a Viper, this might be your car. View below and take a look at the styling, which seems like it took a few hints from other successful cars in the niche, like the Audi TT Roadster in the rear:

This car is a ripoff of the Mazda miata and RX-8 along with the honda s2000, but it still pretty cool.

I like the idea, as well as the looks of the car (sort of). But I don’t think it’s gonna work, ’cause with the Miata, Solstice, Sky, Mustang, Charger, 350Z and all those other similar type cars, I just don’t think that there is room enough for the Demon to slot in, at least not at this price/class range. As the article said, the market is already oversaturated and I doubt the Demon is going to be successful, if it even makes it to production. But what the hey, Dodge might just bet lucky and hit the big one. Power to them.
