Nissan Reveals New Nismo 350Z

Along with the new 2007 350Z, Nissan is releasing what’s known in Japan as the NISMO Fairlady Z. Along with the engine upgrade, the tuned-up Z gets the obvious aero upgrades, as well as a stiffened body.

The Z suspension is stiffer, and with Yamaha performance dampers also part of the more rigid body/suspension structure, cornering performance is expected to take a massive leap forward. High-grip Potenza RE-01R tires (18-inch front, 19-inch rear) on RAYS wheels also join the party. The interior gets Alcantara-trimmed seats, revised door trim, shift knob and instruments, plus an aluminum throttle pedal if you choose the $37,095 6-speed manual (there’s also a $37,892 5-speed auto).

But it doesn’t end there. Nissan’s also developing an even higher performance NISMO 380RS-Competition version for production racing, or even for road use. And along with other new Z variants in Japan, it’s making its world debut at the 2007 Tokyo Auto salon this weekend.

This is the real deal, with a race-tested, long-stroke 3798 cc HR-series V-6 putting out 395 brake horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The 380RS-C gets a unique 6-speed close-ratio gearbox, uprated clutch, Brembo 6-piston calipers, lightweight carbon-fiber doors and hood, perspex windows, a roll bar, racing-style seat, and a safety harness.
