Scion announced that they’ll be debuting their most recent variation of the tC at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show. Called the tC Release Series 3.0, it features quite a few modifications; most noticeably a very different front body kit that gives the car a much more aggressive, lower stance. Another thing you should notice right away is that they removed the front badge from the grill. Included in the list of modifications are black Alcantara seats detailed with a gray perforated center seating surface on a white background. A Pioneer six-inch subwoofer with 35-watt maximum power with a standard 160-watt maximum output Pioneer audio system are tuned specifically for the tC. A 6-inch subwoofer with this crowd? They must be crazy; they might as well not even have one included.
The 2007 tC Release Series 3.0 will come in a frosty Blizzard Pearl white and be decked out with a front and rear KenStyle ground effects kit. Other tC R.S. 3.0 exterior features include darkened headlights, and a custom wide intake-style upper grille with a honeycomb insert that matches the lower grille. This package also has Scion Genuine Accessory clear LED taillights with unique gray trim.
Only 2,500 units of the tC Release Series 3.0 will be built. The tC R.S. 3.0 model will carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,580 over the base price. The base MSRP for the tC starts at $16,400 for the manual transmission model and $17,200 for the automatic transmission model.
This is Scions third Release Series of the tC (hence the “3.0″) and I really like the idea, but I’m not really sure how well these actually sell. When I worked in a Toyota and Scion dealership, we had a red 2005 RS that sat there for a long time with hardly anyone ever looking at it. RS 3.0 looks really good, and it’s not too extreme while still showing how different it is without braking the bank. I have a feeling that the “3.0″ in the name is going to confuse people into thinking it has a 3.0 liter V6 engine. Let’s just be glad they haven’t started the new designs that they were talking about back in August 06.
