Scion Design: We’re Staying Ugly

Apparently, Scion is deciding to stick with “Ugly” as their motto by getting rid of any wedge-like or curvy design features (in other words: Good design features,) and stick with the box. Scion boss Mark Templin says: “We should always have a box. The box can evolve and improve, but the concept of a box will not change.”

Scion Fuse Concept

Both the xA and the tC are going to loose their curves and wedges in favor of the almighty box. The tC was the only good looking vehicle they had, but they are going to replace it’s good looks with something resembling the Fuse Concept, shown above.

Its the one car company that doesn’t produce cars that look the same as every other economy car maker. That alone is cause to respect them.

Josh, I completely agree, but that doesn’t mean they have to be horrendously ugly. And wanting to stick with a box shape goes against all rules of aerodynamics, which is very important with the auto industry, especially considering recent fuel prices.

The only things that will save that ugly car above is if Toyota follows through and either makes it a RWD orputs the Subaru EJ25 in it.

That is a great looking car, you guys must be blind. I suppose you’d rather have a frikkin Honda? We don’t have Scions in Europe and I can’t help thinking we’re missing out.

Scions are great cars, and there are a lot of people that love the designs. Remember BusWanker, design is generally subjective; you and I aren’t going to always like the same thing.

Cars today are butt ugly and worthless, much like the generation that drives them.
What is cool about driving around in a piece of plastic crap shaped like a box? You’re not six years old anymore! you dont need to play around in an old refrigerator box pretending its a car, you’re supposed to have grown up,become more cultured and developed more sophisticated tastes, and an appreciation for good design.
Back in the late 50’s and early 60’s (the zenith of car design) we built dream cars, sculptural works of art that propelled us into a fantasy of futurism and better days ahead.
The designs evoked speed, sleekness and borrowed from rockets and jets….not cardboard boxes and outhouses.
Crap like this is why I will NEVER own a new car.
Just as the cars and products that exist today from the 50’s and early 60’s tell the story of the culture and mindset of the people who created and bought them,so too will these reprehensible piles of uninspired crap tell the sorry tale of this worthless tattooed culturally illiterate generation.
The person who drives a scion is the same type of person who thinks its a great idea to have a bull ring through their nose,or a tattoo of a mountain of skulls on the arm.
All this is more proof of the dumbing down of society
