If you look closely enough at the picture above, you will see the “FX” trim next to the right taillight. While previous generations of the Hyundai Tiburon have had the FX trim, the most recent did not. That made me wonder a bit about what the trim levels would be on the new Tiburon; set to be a 2007 or 2008 model. On my previous post about the 2007 Tiburon, user Giovanni left a comment claiming his father is “high up” in Hyundai Motor Company, and that the new Tiburon FX will still have the 2.7-liter V6, but will be fitted with a supercharger, giving it 279 HP; a badly needed power boost for the underpowered sports car. Giovanni also claims the car will cost $28,000, a jump over the current price. Check out my previous post covering the Concept Tiburon by clicking here. In that post I also compare pictures of the current Tiburon versus the new. Read on…

If Giovanni is correct (and let’s hope he is,) then this is really a move in the right direction for Hyundai. In the previous post, I wrote:
It remains a great choice for an “around $20K” sports coupe, but if the powertrain options are going to stay the same, it might not be enough improvement. I think the car looks a lot sharper, but not everybody shares my opinion. My fiancee was looking into buying a blue 2003 Tiburon GT but was turned off a bit by the lack of power it offered. Perhaps if they upped the weak 172HP 2.7L V6 to something a bit more up-to-date like a 3.3L offering closer to 300HP, that would spice it up a bit, and keep it modern and competitive.
I stand by what I said, and this will be a great move. We were indeed turned off by the lack of power the 172HP model offered, and this supercharged version will offer over a 100HP increase. Excellent.
