Corvette Naming Issues – Z06? Stingray?
There are mixed opinions on what GM is going to use for the new 650hp, $100,000 Corvette. Code-named the Blue Devil, Automobile magazine said they could use the names Z06.R or Z07, while AutoWeek said they would use the Sting-Ray name, even though Motor Trend said “Stingray” will be used for a new sports car model. Personally, I like the Z07 idea. Fits it well. To distinguish the Z06 and “Z07,” Chevy will add carbon fiber body panels and a huge hood vent, but hopefully still be tasteful about it.

I know I’m going to get reamed for this one. I think this could be one of the best values for your money in terms of performance. For a 650 hp supercar, $100,000 is an excellent value. But at the end of the day, you’re still driving a Chevy. Same old boring interior. No superior Italian craftsmanship. If it was my hundred grand, I’d save up a little more and get a Ferrari 360 Modena. Yes, the Corvette will beat it at the track, but I guarantee I’ll be smiling long after the guy in the vette will. I know a lot of you are going to disagree with me here, I’m just offering my opinion. There is just something about exotics that you cannot get out of domestic cars, no matter how fast they are.
Z06 takes you back to the days of grand sports and racing without massive amounts of technology. When the driver was the secret ingredient. The C2 generation was the rebirth of true balance between design and performance for the Corvette. Z06 Stingray would say it all, As an image coming down the road at you, when you dare not blink an eye. And is gone just as fast in a blur. Leaving you with the sounds, the rush and the image of America’s one and only true Sports car that is exotic in performance and appearance, yet mundane enough to have been built on a mass production line. How much more American can it get? And that is something they can’t touch…
I love Corvettes. Always have, and always will. Ever since the new C6 and Z06 current models, I couldn’t be any more convinced that these are some of my favorite cars. The Z06 is an absolute steal for the power and the price! at around 70 grand what else could you ask for? Man.. 505hp 0-60 in 3.7 secs.. amazing. Now, a 650hp killing machine! You know, I love exotics the most of course, who doesn’t, but when all you care about is raw power, the feeling of true American muscle pumping in your veins, and the sound of an unforgettable roar keeping you awake at night, then you have got to love this car. Think about this – the most advanced and powerful American sports car ever built, and it’s for the same price as a mere SL550 Benz, a car with around 382hp that might have the looks, the name, and the interior to kick, but not the amazing sheer power and speed. What would you pick? I know I’d go for the Z06Stingy! And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than the Z06… wow this is an amazing feat.
I completely agree with the above two comments, and about the desire to just drive a true American muscle car. Driving something as fantastic as a Corvette just gets your blood pumping through your ears, and your senses wired as you get into that crazy-screaming-maniac mode of sheer joy. The Corvette is the world’s best bang for the buck car, and that in itself is an amazing feat.
I also agree with the article on however great a Corvette is, it still is not an exotic, and it never will be. Ferraris and the like are forever above the reach of the Corvette because of the brand name, and because of the prestige that comes with it. A Corvette, now matter how powerful, can’t match that. And that’s exactly how it should be. If you want prestige and speed, you get an exotic supercar. If you want just prestige, you get a Rolls or Bentley. But if you want pure, sheer, unadulterated power, you get the Corvette.
